Course Descriptions:  This graduate course is designed to introduce students in science and engineering to modern theories and models of partial differential equations.  Topics include Sobolev spaces, distributions, weak solutions to PDEs, general existence and regularity theories, finite element methods, etc.   Some basic concepts in linear algebra, real analysis, functional analysis will be needed and briefly reviewed.

 

Text Book:      Partial Differential Equations.  Graduate Studies in Mathematics, Vol. 19, AMS, Providence,  second edition,   by  L. C. Evans.

Assignments:   There will be homework assigned after each class.

Grading:   There is no midterm or final exam. The final grade will be based on attendance and assignments.
