This course studies the theory and techniques of descriptive linguistics as applied to the pronunciation of contemporary English. It addresses the basic questions of: What are the sounds of English? How are they produced and perceived, and how are they described? The course will introduce students to the pronunciation of different varieties of English and increase their sensitivity of their own pronunciation of English.
