Neurological and psychological mechanisms involved in maintaining and improving brain healthy conditions, like aging, stress, pain, health-related behaviors. Neurological and psychological mechanisms underpinning pathological psychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions: depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism spectrum disorder. Risk factors, prevention and intervention approaches will also be discussed.
Through a critical analysis of scientific research, students will develop the skills to evaluate and interpret neuroscientific studies. The course will also examine the integration of neuroscience findings into clinical practice, including the application of neuroimaging techniques and neuromodulation interventions. By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid foundation in neuroscience and its implications for well-being, enabling them to approach mental health and its disorders from a multidimensional perspective.
