This course examines STEM education in K-12. It explores various perspectives and approaches related to STEM education including education goals, instructional approaches, and curriculum and assessment designs. Course topics include origins of STEM education, theoretical frameworks of STEM education, different approaches to STEM education, designing discipline-based interdisciplinary learning, designing interdisciplinary STEM courses, and organizing out-of-classroom STEM activities and competitions. Through readings, discussions, and literature review, students will develop an in-depth understanding of research and practices of STEM education. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to collect and organize curriculum materials related to STEM education in a subject area at a particular grade level.
