This course focuses on introducing 1) the major types of curriculum integration, including

intradisciplinary integration, multidisciplinary integration, interdisciplinary integration, and

transdisciplinary integration; and 2) the various approaches and strategies for designing and

implementing integrated activities in elementary school, including problem-based and project-

based learning, STEM, integration of science and story-telling, integration through games and

simulations, etc. In this course, the theoretical content is conveyed through lectures, experiential 

activities, case analysis, open-ended discussions, and design practices. Students enrolled are 

expected to 1) actively engage in different types of integrated activities and learn through 

reflections; 2) conduct critical analysis of sample cases, and 3) design integrated activities in group 

and on your own and provide peer feedback on each other’s design.
